In order to work towards gaining a nationally recognised NVQ qualification, those people working in the tiling industry will need to undergo assessment in order to demonstrate their abilities.

Practising tilers will need to find an NVQ approved assessment centre that employs experienced instructors and assessors who are able to provide accredited onsite assessment (OSAT).

Official OSAT is aimed at those people who already possess tiling knowledge having worked within the industry or have lower level qualifications which demonstrate their competence to be able to complete a NVQ.

If you want to be assessed onsite, you will need to make certain that a centre's assessors and internal verifiers are approved by City & Guilds and the Construction Awards Alliance.

Once the NVQ Assessment process has been put into motion, there will be an interview been the candidate and the assessor in which a timetable of action will be created.

All NVQ applicants will need to gather and record evidence which ideally be confirmed by either a supervisor or site foreman if an assessor was unable to be present in person.

Accredited assessors can visit your workplace and observe you performing tiling tasks at work so that they can examine the quality of work and discuss what evidence of competency you have provided.

Once an assessor has evaluated the quantity and quality of your work, he will be able to sign off the appropriate NVQ units which can be achieved in a relatively short space of time.

The process of completing the relevant units can be hampered if the tiling tasks you perform at work are restricted or repetitive so you will have to discuss with your assessor how to achieve this.

Achieving a NVQ will set a tiler on the route to gain a Construction Skills Certification Scheme card, which is an increasingly popular way of proving occupational competence.

Employers are usually happy for their tiling staff to undergo onsite assessment because demonstrating the competence of their employees though qualifications means that they can promise a higher quality product.

NVQ qualified tradesmen are more likely to have greater awareness of health and safety issues which means that employers can trust that there will be fewer accidents around the workplace.

If you are a practicing tiler but do not think that you are at the appropriate level for OSAT, there are plenty of other qualification courses than can set you on the way to achieving the all important NVQ.

Able Skills provide training through tiling courses and electrical courses. Able Skills have opened an Energy Saving Training Centre to provide approved training on the installation of energy efficient forms of heating and lighting. They are often mentioned in proposals and reviews as key elements of good capacity-building practice. Yet despite their current status, many of us are unclear what Coaching and Mentoring really involve, and where and when they work. We have a number of questions: What does a coach or mentor actually do? Is there any real difference between them?

Mentors in either a formal mentoring program or informal relationship focus on the person, their career and support for individual growth and maturity while the coach is job-focused and performance oriented."A mentor is like a sounding board, they can give advice but the partners is free to pick and choose what they do. The context does not have specific performance objectives. A coach is trying to direct a person to some end result, the person may choose how to get there, but the coach is strategically assessing and monitoring the progress and giving advice for effectiveness and efficiency."

"Mentoring is biased in your favor. Coaching is impartial, focused on improvement in behavior."In summary, the mentor has a deep personal interest, personally involved-a friend who cares about you and your long term development. The coach develops specific skills for the task, challenges and performance expectations at work.Mentoring is a power free, two-way mutually beneficial relationship. Mentors are facilitators and teachers allowing the partners to discover their own direction.

"They let me struggle so I could learn."

"Never provided solutions-always asking questions to surface my own thinking and let me find my own solutions."

A coach has a set agenda to reinforce or change skills and behaviors. The coach has an objective/goals for each discussion. In our study, the top four words chosen to best describe their mentor's dominant style were-friend/confidant, direct, logical, questioner.

Even in formal mentoring programs the partners and mentor have choices-to continue, how long, how often, and our focus. Self-selection is the rule in informal mentoring relationships with the partners initiating and actively maintaining the relationship. If I'm you mentor, you probably picked me. In an organization your coach hired you. Coaching comes with the job, a job expectation, in some organizations a defined competency for managers and leaders.

The interpersonal skills will determine the effectiveness of influence for both coach and mentor. The coach also has an implied or actual level of authority by nature of their position, ultimately they can insist on compliance. A mentor's influence is proportionate to the perceive value they can bring to the relationship. It is a power free relationship based on mutual respect and value for both mentor and partners. Your job description might contain "coach" or you might even have that job title-it's just a label or expectation. "Mentor" is a reputation that has to be personally earned, you are not a mentor until the partners says you are.

The coach's returns are in the form of more team harmony, and job performance. The mentoring relationship is reciprocal. There is a learning process for the mentor from the feedback and insights of the partners.

"The ability to look at situations from a different perspective, I am a Generation X and he is in his 60's."

The relationship is a vehicle to affirm the value of and satisfaction from fulfilling a role as helper and developer of others. Mentors need not be an all-knowing expert-such a position could be detrimental. In our study the most significant thing the mentor did was "listened and understood me" and, "built my confidence and trust in myself, empowered me to see what I could do."

A great deal of informal mentoring is occurring, with at risk youth, in our schools, as well as in volunteer, not for profit and for profit organizations. If I am your mentor chances are you have chosen me to be of help with some aspect of your life. Coaching even in the sporting arena is task related-improvement of knowledge, skills or abilities to better perform a given task. Mentors are sought for broader life and career issues. The partner is proactive in seeking out mentors and keeping the relationship productive. The coach creates the need for discussion and is responsible for follow up and holding others accountable.

Coaching and Mentoring are not the same thing. Our results and experience support the conclusion that mentoring is a power free, two-way mutually beneficial learning situation where the mentor provides advice, shares knowledge and experiences, and teaches using a low pressure, self-discovery approach. s. The mentor is both a source of information/knowledge and a Socratic questioner. If I am your coach you probably work for me and my concern is your performance, ability to adapt to change, and enrolling you support in the vision/direction for our work unit.

Coaching and Mentoring today are key focus areas for organizations with respect to L&D initiatives for its Leadership and Leaders' in waiting.
Assistants skilled in the field of dentistry are confident about their job prospects. One needs to undertake years of training and learning to get qualified as a full-grown dentist, but if a person, who is looking to exert their energy in an area of less job responsibility than a dentist, then dental assistant programs can be a good choice. Joining the right school with the sound schooling is what makes a great career in healthcare industry worthwhile. Bear the following tips in mind when searching for best dental assistant programs:

Duration of the Course:

Before you put your name for any of the dental assistant programs, you must consider how long the program duration is and how rigorous the training will be. The duration of classic training programs ranges within 6 to 9 months. With a 6-month program as a dental assistant, you can begin earning sooner, but your level of knowledge will be unlike a dental assistant with a 9-month training period, as these encompass a broader range of areas related to dental care under discussion. With one of these longer more in-depth programs, you will be in a better position to get more job opportunities. On the other hand, if you plan to carry on with advanced dental schooling in future, a program of lesser duration can prove sufficient to grant you the certification you need. Even if you do not intend to go on to higher education, a fundamental 6-month training gives you an opportunity to participate in placement programs and get you a good job.

What Is The Teaching Method Used?

Regardless of your choice of a six-month or nine-month dental assistant programs, you must ensure that the training blends wide-ranging education points and purposes, dedicated lecturing and practical training. This practical training part is supposed to be the central feature for you to try to find, as here they prepare you for the real thing via this facet of schooling. With practical training, you will be all geared-up when starting to work at dental clinics, hospitals and miscellaneous healthcare centers soon after your education.

What Is The Course Syllabus Made Up Of?

There are many facets concerning dental assistant programs. As healthcare is a serious question of public interest, suitable and appropriate training is indispensable to ensure that patient care and safety is not compromised in any way. Each patient deserves to get the best possible care. Thus, you must search for a training program that will educate you in the following crucial areas: (dental/medical) urgent situations, skiagraphy, dental orthopedics, dental terms and expressions, tooth morphology, disease transmission, clinical procedures, oral surgery and preventive dentistry and nutrition.

Finally, a good dental assistant program will provide you a job placement opportunity to help you gather the work skills necessary to begin your career. If you consider all these points, you will surely find best dental assistant programs.
rusulihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07685976118115630763noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5057855937023106835.post-36722560314193006062012-01-08T21:18:00.000-08:002012-02-28T21:56:50.705-08:00Finding Housing For Graduate School
When you are an undergraduate freshman, college is such a brand new experience that there is practically unlimited guidance in every aspect of it. The faculty assists you when it comes to accommodations. You basically fill out a form, and they tell you where you will live down to the room number and roommate. By the time you reach graduate school, however, the living arrangements are not so accessible. If you are new to a city and unsure how to go about settling in, here are some tips.

One route you could take is living in a dorm reserved for graduate students. This may be the most convenient option if you had to live off-campus for most of your undergraduate years or if you never had the opportunity to live on-campus and had to commute from home. Just make sure that your school has graduate dormitories before eliminating anything else.

One thing to watch out for is how your school doles out room assignments. If there is limited space in the graduate dorms, it is possible that you could be placed in an undergraduate dorm instead. Depending on what you want out of your living situation, this may not be the best environment.

If money is tight but you have some availability in your schedule, you may want to become a graduate assistant, or GA. A GA is a graduate student who lives in an undergraduate dorm as an assistant to the students. These grad students can help to organize events for everyone on their floor, while also enforcing university policies and looking after the general well-being of the students. There are many perks to this position even though you would not live with other graduate students. On top of the social activities, they receive some sort of compensation for their service, such as free housing for that year and maybe free meal plans, depending on the university. Just make sure you have enough time for the extra commitment.

On the other hand, you may want to look off-campus. You can search through websites like Craigslist or local rental agencies. If you do not want to live in one place for a whole year, you should sublet since renters will charge less than they pay. If you are concerned about roommates, search within your school by posting flyers. You may be able to find enough people to live in a house, which could have a porch or backyard.

Off-campus housing could be more affordable but when living on-campus, you do not have to pay separate bills for water, electric, heat, cable, and so on. Everything is one lump sum and probably on the same bill as all other university charges, like tuition. However, off-campus could be a more homey transition into graduate school and may offer more amenities. Dormitories may feel less personal.

Even if living in a dorm turns out to be the priciest option, you could receive more financial aid with this situation. There are loans available to help pay for not only tuition but also rent. This sort of support is not offered to those who get housing outside of the school's program.

Weigh out your needs and then choose, because as you can see there are many possibilities plus variations of those possibilities. The most important thing is that you are comfortable, because this is where you will carry out your graduate school education. Take your grad school search seriously because it will affect your future. Find out where you see yourself being most productive and optimistic, and that will be your new home.
rusulihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07685976118115630763noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5057855937023106835.post-85598564887153479692012-01-08T21:17:00.000-08:002012-02-28T21:57:01.708-08:00Climb To The Very Top With A Doctorate Degree
As you consider occupations and higher education options, you will read about Associate's, Bachelor's, Master's, and finally doctor of philosophy (PhD) or doctorate degrees. How should you decide which of these is the one you should pursue. The decision truly depends on the career path that you choose and the advantages an advanced degree brings to your choices.

For now, we will only consider doctorate or PhD degrees, which are the highest level of academic achievement and, in some countries, are considered to be the end of the educational line. Doctorate degrees are actually a group of degrees usually associated with qualifying someone to teach and, in fact, the word doctorate is derived from a Latin word meaning "to teach". However, teaching is only one of the occupations performed by "doctors" as you will discover.

Study for a doctorate takes from four to eight years and consists of coursework, a comprehensive examination, and a research dissertation. There are different types of doctoral degrees, and the type of courses and number of credits earned varies from program to program. The most common degrees are research doctorates, or what we think of as PhDs, and they require coursework and a specific research project to complete.

In some countries, there is a hierarchy of research doctorates called higher doctorates, which require a body of research work called a portfolio. There are also professional doctorates, which require research aligned with a specific profession, and these degrees are held by lawyers, doctors, and psychologists. Finally, there are honorary doctorate degrees, which are given in recognition of contributions in a particular field or for some philanthropic efforts.

Other than the professions mentioned above, there are very few careers that actually require a doctorate degree, but it certainly provides an advantage for the highest paying jobs or for work in government services. The advanced degree also qualifies you for a position upgrade to titles such as professor, CEO, consultant, or research worker. If you already have a Master's degree, the doctorate puts you in line for a pay raise.

Since there are so many institutions that offer doctorate degrees, you must consider your choice carefully. You should first consider whether or not the school and program is accredited and whether or not there are financial aid programs to help you afford the tuition and fees. You should then consider the reputations of the curriculum, program, and faculty before making your selection.

You should also consider whether you can make the commitment to in-person classes or would rather enroll in an online program. Online programs are now not only acceptable but also accredited. In these programs, some in class time is still required and a comprehensive project or supervised placement replaces the research thesis.

Doctorate degrees are very prestigious. The time, effort, and commitment that a student must make to a doctorate program are extensive; so much thought and research is required up front. Depending on your career and educational goals, however, the rewards can be huge. If you are ready for the challenges from the highest level of academic achievement, then you should begin your journey today. Start by researching universities to see where you would like to attend.
rusulihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07685976118115630763noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5057855937023106835.post-22408928580559074532012-01-08T21:16:00.000-08:002012-02-28T21:57:38.385-08:00Older Students Are Often Well-Prepared For Graduate School
If you are just thinking about going back to school to pursue graduate studies after a long break from the world of academia, you may be wishing you'd got an earlier start. You may even feel as if you've been wasting time or just spinning your wheels in the years following your undergraduate degree. After all, some ambitious college students go straight to graduate school after completing a Bachelor's program, getting a jump-start on a better career with higher earnings. This route, however, is not recommended for everyone. In fact, adults returning to school to complete graduate studies at a later date are often at an advantage.

Keep in mind that for many students, graduate school is a way of avoiding the workforce for just a few more years. Not every college student who enters a graduate program has a clear idea of what he or she wants to get out of it. Rather, it can at times be an escape route for young adults who don't know exactly what they want. As an older student, you likely have a much more focused idea of what you want to do with your graduate studies, and you are far less likely to be pursuing an advanced degree for frivolous purposes.

Because you've spent time in the workforce, you know what steps are necessary to further your career. You not only know whether or not a graduate degree is a necessary investment to go far in your field, but you also know what concentration you should be pursuing and what actions you must take to make your degree count.

Just the fact that you have spent years in the workforce, whereas some graduate students have never held a job, gives you an advantage. You'll more easily see the application of what you are learning. Your work experience will give you valuable perspective. In fact, many graduate programs look for work experience during the admissions process, tending to favor applicants who have spent time employed in their field.

As an older student, you have also had time to grow up a lot. By this point, you understand the value of your education and will make the most of it. Older students tend to have better grades and attendance than their younger counterparts, and they tend to participate more frequently in class and generally make the most of their opportunities.

Older students also tend to be better at networking in grad school. They have spent time holding a job or several jobs, which led to confidence gain and a loss of timidity. They tend to know what they want and how others can help them achieve their goals.

As an older student, you may experience unique challenges while working on your graduate degree, due to the length of time since you have last been in school. The truth is that it should not be long before everything you've learned in the past comes flooding back. You'll find that you're a smarter, stronger student than you were in the past, after your initial rustiness goes away.

It is never too late to go back to college, and you'll probably be glad you did. Going to graduate school after you've been in the workforce for some time could give you the competitive edge you need to go farther in your career. You can even choose to take courses online!
rusulihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07685976118115630763noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5057855937023106835.post-44697613884505998252012-01-08T21:15:00.000-08:002012-02-28T21:57:49.179-08:00Going Back To College After A Long Hiatus
Many students begin college only to find that the other responsibilities in their lives get in the way. It is not uncommon for students to later decide that a college degree is important to their success. If you are thinking about finishing a college degree you started a long time ago, there are some steps you should take to ensure that you are prepared for beginning college anew. Before long, you'll on track to earning the college degree you need to get started on what you wish to accomplish in your life.

Your first step as a returning college student should be to evaluate where you are so far. Perhaps you took a couple of courses in community college, or maybe you were only a semester away from completing your degree. People find themselves having to leave college for many reasons. Rather than dwell on your decision to leave school, think positive. The credits you have earned in the past may still count towards your degree.

You should contact your prospective college about credits you already have so you can determine whether or not they will be accepted. Even if credits that you already have cannot be used towards your major, they may be accepted as elective courses. Even if it was 10 or 15 years since you were last in college, many colleges today will accept your credits in an effort to be accommodating to the large number of adults now returning to school. Some exceptions might be courses in subjects such as computer science, where great advances have been made since you were last in college.

An admissions counselor will be your go-to person to help you as you transfer credits from other institutions to the college where you have decided to earn your degree. He or she will be able to tell you which credits transfer and which do not. If certain credits don't transfer, do not look on them as wasted time. Instead, view them as valuable experience and preparation for the rest of your college career.

If you feel you have been really wronged by an admission counselor, however, you may choose to petition the Dean of Admissions. Courses from your past may be accepted for credit if you are able to back up your argument with evidence that your credits from the past do indeed meet a university's requirements.

Now is also the time to evaluate whether the major you may have been working towards when last you were in college still applies to your life and career goals. Many students find that after taking some time off from college, they have now matured and developed to the point where they have different ambitions. It is perfectly okay to change your major to reflect your new goals.

Finally, it is time to determine what course load you think you can handle as a returning student. If it has been quite a while since you were last in college, you may choose to take things slowly. If you have a full-time or even a part-time job, that is also a good reason to take just one or two courses at a time, at least until you learn to juggle your responsibilities.

Making the choice to go back to school after a break can seem complicated, but don't despair. Before long, you'll be attending classes with more resolute goals and a refreshed state of mind. Keep in mind that online college may be very practical for you.
rusulihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07685976118115630763noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5057855937023106835.post-29284959911994526662012-01-08T21:11:00.001-08:002012-02-28T21:58:49.914-08:00Post Natal Exercise Training Courses
If you work as a fitness professional you will from time to time take on a client who is having a baby. More and more women are choosing to continue exercising through their pregnancy, as more studies show it to be safe and even beneficial for most women and their unborn babies. Equally important is post natal exercise, to get your client fit and healthy after giving birth, and helping to cut down the time it takes for them to get back into shape. There are many techniques, dos and don't of post natal exercising, and your course will teach you the safest and most effective ways to help your client.

By gaining a post natal exercise course certification you will be well equipped to give the best advice and safest exercises to these clients, having gained a full understanding of the physical and psychological changes as well as the medical complications faced as a result of pregnancy. By completing a post natal exercise course you will be able to adapt your client's exercise prescription to accommodate them safely and to best effect.

After giving birth the muscles of the lower back and core abdominal muscles are weakened, and ligaments are more supple making it easier to damage them. A new mum may not have much energy for exercise, but will want to get back into shape. Exercise can actually help your client relax, as well as giving them a little time to themselves. It will also helps them feel more energetic and better equipped to deal with the pressures of parenthood.

New mothers who exercised up until giving birth will find it easier to get back into training and can begin as soon as they are ready with a series of gentle rtretching and light exercise. If she stopped exercising during the pregnancy or did not exercise at all a gentle start after a longer delay may be the best way forward. You will learn more about this during your post natal training course. Swimming may not be recommended as post natal exercise for at least the first six weeks due to the risk of infection. Aerobic exercise such as running and tennis are not usually recommended until the pelvic floor muscles have recovered.

During your post natal exercise training diploma you will learn the expertise and build up your confidence when working with new mothers as clients. You will learn more about the changes your clients have experienced, what effect it has had on them, and what you can do to help. By the end of your course you will be able to deliver safe exercise plans which benefit the client by specifically targeting key areas affected during pregnancy, to help ease pain and discomfort, reduce weight gained, and help get your client back into shape after the birth.

Once you have gained your post natal exercise certificate you will also be adding another 'string to your bow', a qualification on your CV to help you stand out from the crowd and create more interest from potential employers, or help you gain a pay rise from your current place of work.
If you plan to apply for global business schools, GMAT can be the gateway for you. Since the top schools (more than 1900 schools) of the world are selecting candidates through the score of GMAT, it is obvious that cracking the test is not an effortless task. There are three principal parts of GMAT syllabus, and you need to master all of them to encompass a satisfactory score.

1. GMAT Verbal Ability
The verbal section of GMAT tries to understand your knowledge of English. There are three types of questions that are included. The first is sentence correction, which tests your correct expression, effective expression and proper diction. Reading comprehension tests the understanding of the candidate in general English. The way you comprehend a topic determines the marks. Critical reasoning will tests your logical ability to understand a complex sentence or argument. There are 41 questions included in this section, and you have 45 minutes to complete the same.

2. GMAT Quantitative Ability:
This section is also known as the mathematical section that tests your knowledge in algebra, geometry and arithmetic. Most of the questions come from high school level and wants to see your understanding of elementary mathematics. There are 37 multiple choice questions, and you are allowed 45 minutes to complete. The data sufficiency segment of the paper tests mathematical and logical reasoning. You will be given a problem with two statements, which you need to understand and answer. The problem solving section will test arithmetic, algebra and geometry concepts.

3. GMAT Analytical Writing Assessment
This part of GMAT tests your analytical skills. There are two parts of the section-analysis of an argument and analysis of an issue. You will have a total of 30 minutes to complete each analysis. In the analysis of an argument, a paragraph or generally, an argument is given in the paper, which candidates need to analyze critically. You need to understand and present your understanding of the same. In the analysis of an issue, you need to give your viewpoint on complex ideas or situation. This question will try to evaluate your ability to determine the pros and cons of a situation and come to an understand-based analysis.

However, you many think you can prepare for these sections on your own, you would certainly need help for tricks and saving time. You can take a few tests to find your level of understanding and then, you can decide of you need training and coaching. There is noteworthy coaching available for GMAT, which can help you learn few essential ways of solving problems without taking time. Since you need to attempt all sections within the specified time, the need for time management is inevitable.

Coaching centers can give you relevant materials for self preparation, and you can easily contact the faculty, in case, you have any problems understanding the course content of GMAT syllabus
rusulihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07685976118115630763noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5057855937023106835.post-27081222261711623662012-01-08T21:06:00.000-08:002012-02-28T21:58:02.687-08:00ESL Writing: Spelling
Spelling of English Words:

People spoke English before they wrote it. When they started writing it, there was a lot of confusion about how to represent the sounds. That means there was a lot of confusion about how to spell the words. Over the years, the way people spoke English changed but what they wrote down in books and dictionaries did not change. As a result often there is little in common between how English is written and how it is spoken. That is why English spelling seems illogical.

But you have to deal with the difficulties of spelling correctly in your writing. Proper spelling is important to you as you learn to write English. It is important for two principal reasons.

The first is that the image your writing projects of your seriousness and competence depends greatly on your spelling. Persons who spell correctly in their writing are considered more intelligent and their professional work makes a better impression.

The second reason is that spelling correctly can help not only your writing but also your reading and speaking. Most adults who are learning English are used to saying that there is no sense to the spelling of English words.

This is not true. Although English is not always pronounced the way it is spelled, you will be happy to learn that you can learn a few facts and "rules" of English spelling that will help you in your writing. But remember, even the best rules have their exceptions. Although spelling is usually taught to children, it is not child's play. It is important to you because it is very closely related to your reading, writing, and vocabulary improvement. This is because all these activities depend on the same language skills.

Spelling and Writing:

Of course, spelling is most connected with writing. Your writing will not impress your readers as mature or professional if it is full of misspelled words. Furthermore, if you can't spell well, you will tend to avoid writing, and when you do write you will write shorter pieces. The result of your fear of spelling will keep you from using the more expressive words you may know because you are afraid of spelling them wrong. This is the reason why we have this section on spelling in a book that is dedicated to helping you improve your writing.

Spelling and Reading:

As your spelling improves, you will be able to read more words. You will be able to read groups of words, rather than single words, and will understand more of your reading. You will get clues from your knowledge of word parts. For example, if you learn the word sociology, you will recognize the ending in other words such as geology, biology etc.

As you come across new words that indicate fields of intellectual activity, you will be able to build on the ology ending. You will just have to learn the word part that indicates the field of study. This way your recognition and spelling vocabulary will grow.

You know that there are many words in English that are spelled differently but are pronounced the same. The words rite, write, andright are all pronounced the same. Instead of this making your reading more difficult, it will make it easier for you. As you learn the meaning of the different words, the spelling will help you keep from confusing the meaning, and help in your understanding of what you read.

An example of the connection between spelling and reading is the pair of words, stationery and stationary. School children learn to spell both words correctly by suing the memory trick of remembering that the words letter and paper (items sold in stationery stores) are written with the letters "er" and not "ar". This way the children remember that stationery with an "e" refers to the tools of correspondence, such as paper and envelopes etc.

Spelling and Speaking:

Certain words in English, such as flesh, flush, flash, fresh, etc. are only different from each other in one or two letters. The person that learns to spell these words necessarily learns the meaning and vice versa. The persons who concentrate on the spelling and the value of the consonants will also improve their speaking and writing. An interest in spelling will make you a better speaker and writer of English. You will understand better the meaning of the words when you write them.

Learning their differences in spelling also will also help in your speaking; you will know their meaning and how to pronounce them more clearly. Similarly an interest in the proper pronunciation will make you a better speller of English. Some people just go on spelling similar words wrong and give the excuse that "they sound the same". However, when you learn the proper pronunciation you will be able to spell the word correctly.

Ways of Learning Spelling Rules:

Some people say that English is crazy and has no rules, and that there is no way to be able to learn spelling rules. These people influenced the teaching of primary English to children. Their theory of teaching English emphasized the visual recognition of the words. Taken to an extreme, this approach makes learning the spelling of English words the same as that of learning Chinese characters.

Fortunately, this approach is being displaced and teachers are returning to that which used to be the approach to spelling, the language based teaching of spelling. Now we recognize that the spelling of nearly 50% of English words is predictable based on the letters in the word. For example, the spelling of the "hard" k sound, the /k/ in pack, look, and act are predictable to those who know the rules. Furthermore, 34% more of English words (such as knit, boat and two) are predictable except for one sound.

Finally, if we take into account other information such as the origin of the word, or its meaning, a very small percentage of English words are truly irregular and have to be learned visually by reading them several times. The language based approach to spelling is even more appropriate for you, who are learning English as an adult. You are better equipped than the child to see categories and to apply rules. If the language based system is better for children; it is even more useful for adults.

The Language Based Approach is based on:

* word origin and history,
* syllable pattern,
* word parts,
* letter patterns.
* Don't be afraid. We will explain these points step by step and as clearly as we can. The few examples we will give you should be enough for you to recognize other examples of the three main parts of the language based approach so that you can continue improving your spelling on your own after reading this brief introduction.

Word Parts: Knowing the important parts of words such as prefixes, suffixes and roots will help you in your spelling, writing, and speaking. Some teachers will give a list of words for students to memorize their spelling, for example teacher, professor, aviator, writer, actor, carpenter, author, plumber, baker, etc.

To concentrate on the different suffixes is a better way to learn the difference in the spelling of these words. Take a look at what follows. It is only one example but will help you discover and learn other word parts. The everyday words end in "er", and the more modern or sophisticated words end in "or".

There is a reason for this which will help you. The words that name everyday trades and professions (like teacher, baker, carpenter) come from Old English or entered modern English early, while the "more fancy" professions (like professor, actor, author) are named by words that come from Latin, and were introduced into English much later.

This is just one example of how a knowledge of the different suffixes, "er" or "or" can help you. The origin of these two different suffixes also brings us to look at the role of the origin and history of words in the next section. English has many Latin and Greek word parts (prefixes, roots, and suffixes).

It is useful to know them to use the correct word in your writing. Look at the following. Following are a few examples; they are only a few among many that have entered the English language. If you learn a root or a prefix it will help you with other words. Little by little you can learn them all. For example, in the word "geology", the word part "geo" has to do with the earth, and "ology" is the "study of". Next time you see the word "geography", "geometry", etc. you will know that it has something to do with the earth. You will also have a start on knowing the meaning of "anthropology", psychology", "sociology", "criminology", etc.
Word Origin and History:

If you are curious and try to learn the origin of words when you look them up in a dictionary, little by little you will be conscious of the influence the origin of a word has on its spelling. For example, my students confuse the words past and passed. They write:In the passed, life was simpler. The child past his exams.

Of course these sentences are wrong. It is easy to correct this error. You have to realize that the word passed is a form of the verb pass because it ends in the letters "ed". Once you have this engraved in your mind you will never write, The bus past our stop. You will know that since you are talking about what the bus did, you are using a verb. You are saying that the bus did not stop, that it went on. You will know clearly that the proper word to use is the word passed. The proper sentence is:The bus passed our stop.

Other examples are the pairs: mist and missed, band and banned. It should be easy for you to realize that the proper use of the words is the following.

* In the morning the mist makes it hard to see.
* The hunter shot at the bird but missed.
* The government banned smoking in public places.
* The band played the music too loud.

Syllable Patterns

First of all, let's be sure we know what a syllable is. When we hear English spoken we hear a certain rhythm; we don't hear one unbroken sound. We hear different parts of what is being said. If we hear the phrase "Robert's father", we hear four parts of the saying: "Ro" "bert's" "fa" "ther". Each of these parts is a syllable.

Also, let's review what vowels and consonants are. Vowels are sounds that we make with no interruption of the flow of air by the mouth, tongue or lips. Consonants are sounds that stop, interrupt, begin or end a vowel; consonants are made with the different placement and use of the speech organs. Now we can look at the syllables.

There are two kinds of syllables in English: open syllables and closed syllables.

It is very useful to know this because it will help you in your spelling. The open syllable ends in one vowel and that vowel is long. A closed syllable ends in one vowel and that vowel is short.

The vowel of an open syllable is long, for example, he, go, and the first syllables of apron, hotel, etc. A "long" is a vowel that sounds like its name in English. The "a" of apron sounds like the name of the letter "a" and the "o" of hotel sounds like the name of the letter "o".

A closed syllable ends in one vowel and that vowel is short, that is, it has a sound that is NOT the same as the vowel's name in English. Why bother with this? Because it will help us to spell correctly the words we know how to pronounce.

You probably have heard the word "rabbit" and have talked about this long-eared animal. If you know the difference between open syllables and closed syllables, you will know that you spell this word with two "b"s. If you spelled it with one "b" as*"ra" "bit", the first syllable would be open and therefore the letter "a" would sound like its name and it would sound like "ray".

Since you know that the long-eared rodent's name doesn't sound like "ray-bit", you know that have to double the consonant "b" in the middle of the word. On the other hand, the word "label" is splht into two syllables before the consonant so the first syllable is open and there is no double "b" as in "rabbit". So this word is pronounced with a long vowel and sounds like "lay-ble".

This is a simple rule to remember; it is the "rabbit rule" and reminds us that in a two-syllable word, there has to be a double consonant in the middle after a short vowel. Knowing this rule is better than memorizing the spelling of words like ladder, tennis, written, etc.

Of course there are exceptions but the "rule" holds up most of the time. According to the "rule", the words lemon and camel should be spelled with two "m"s because their first syllable is not long. But they are not; they are spelled the way they are spelled with only one "m".

This is an example of what makes people complain about English spelling. True, it would be easier for you if the "rabbit rule" always was followed, but why complain about the exceptions if the rule helps you most of the time?

The "rabbit rule" not only helps you spell, it helps you read. If you come across an unknown word like "written", you will know how to pronounce it. You will know that the first vowel is not long, although you know that it is a form of the word "write".

Many people who learn English think that the word should sound like "write". They pronounce the word as if it were "writen". There is no reason to pronounce it this way, since you have the word in front of you with two "t"s. Of course, knowing the rule you will write correctly.

Letter Patterns:

If you learn certain facts about how different letters show up in English words, this will help you with your spelling and writing. This is because English is spelled in certain ways to preserve connection with how it is pronounced whenever this is possible.

Knowing a few letter patterns will be a big help. For example, surely you already know that the letter "q" is always followed by the letter "u" as in the words "queen" and "question".. Also, for some reason in the nature of the English language, no word can end with the letter "v" without a silent "e" at the end. Therefore, we have glove, move, live, etc.

The /k/ sound There are more letter patterns but for the moment, let's look at an important one. The sound /k/, not the letter "k", is sometimes spelled with the letter "c" and sometimes with the letter "k". If the sound comes before the letters "a", "o", or "u", or before any consonant, the hard sound (like someone coughing) is spelled with the letter "c", as in the words, "cat", "cup", "coat", "cover", "cut", "cable", "clean", etc. Before the letters "e", "i", or "y", this hard sound is spelled with the letter "k", as in the words, "keep", "kite", "whiskey", Kevin, kipper, funky, monkey, etc.

The letter "c" and the /s/ sound The letter "c" usually has the sound /s/ before the letters "e", "i" or "y", such as in the words cell, celery, cilantro, receive, incipient, cyber, etc. On the other hand as explained above, before the letters "a", "o", or "u", the letter "c" represents the hard sound as in the letter words, "cat", "cup", "coat", "cover", "cut", "cable", "clean", etc.

Of course, there are exceptions to the rule, but you can learn them by making up little reminders as you learn the words that don't follow the rule. To remember a few of them say, "The kangaroo and the skunk like to skate".

The /g/ sound A similar pattern involves the sound /g/, not the letter "g". The sound /g/ sounds like someone choking or like Lady Gaga's name. This sound is sometimes spelled with the letter "g" and sometimes it requires a "u" after the "g". If the sound comes before the letters "a", "o", or "u", or before any consonant, it is spelled with the letter "g" alone, as in the words, "goat", "gum", "glove", "go", "Gus", "gas", "glue", etc.

Before the letters "e", "i", or "y", this sound is spelled with the letters "gu", as in the words, "guitar", "guess", "guy", guilty, etc. There are many exceptions to the rule, but as with the sound /k/ you can learn them by inventing little reminders as you learn the words that don't follow the rule, such as "Get the gilded gelding!"

Rules of adding "es" to:

* make the plural of nouns ending in s, sh, ch, or x,
* and the third person singular of verbs ending in s, sh, ch, or x.

SINGULAR - PLURAL

One kiss - Two kisses

One lunch - Four lunches

One fox - Three foxes

One lass - Many lasses.

One tax - Many taxes

One ass - Many asses

VERB THIRD PERSON SINGULAR

Tax - NYC taxes our income.

Fish- He fishes for salmon.

Crunch - She crunches up her old cereal boxes.

Pass- John passes all his tests.

Words ending in the letter "y" Words that end in this letter "y change the "y" to "i" before adding any suffix or other word ending, unless the suffix begins with the letter "i". Look at the following examples:

* The word happy changes the "y" to "i", adds the suffix and becomes happiness
* The word beauty changes the "y" to "i", adds the suffix and becomesbeautiful
* The word plenty changes the "y" to "i", adds the suffix and becomes plentiful
* The word try changes the "y" to "i", adds the suffix and becomes tries

BUT... If the suffix starts with the letter "i" (for example "ing"), the word try does NOT change the "y" to "i". It adds the suffix and becomes trying. If we add the ending ish to the word boy, we get boyish.

Doubling the Final Consonant:

a. Words ending in an accented short vowel or any spelling of a special English vowel sound (as in the words "bird", "turn", "word") double the final consonant so that the word has the original sound when a vowel suffix is added..

For example:

remit - remittance

upset - upsetting

occur - occurred

confer - conferring

refer - referred

concur - concurrent.

BUT... If the accented vowel is not short, the word does not double the final consonant. Wait a minute! What is an accent? An accent (not the way you talk, like an American accent) is the stress or emphasis on a syllable. We say the word "telephone" with the accent on the first syllable. It is TELephone, not telePHONE.

For example:

reload - reloaded

defeat defeating

delude deluding

slide slider

b. Words ending in a consonant in which the accent is not on the last syllable do not double the final consonant.

For example:

open - opening

holler - hollering

recover - recovered

c. Also if the words ends in a silent "e", the "e" is dropped and there is no doubling.

For example

forgive - forgiving

pure - purify

refuse - refusal

fame - famous

globe - global

convince - convincing

This is the big reason behind the sudden explosion in the number of higher education degrees available in the health sector. Respiratory therapist programs, just as an example, while once an obscure degree only offered at a handful of places are now offered at nearly every community college and technical school found today.

Aside from the increasing demand for care and services, these positions are actually increasing also because of division of labor differences now being seen in many care facilities in efforts to curb rising costs. The roles of nurses in particular are being divided, partly to cut labor costs, and partly because of a shortage of nurses on an international scale. The result being degree programs in very specific, technical areas of care.

These programs are often not very long, some as short as eighteen months. This aspect appeals to a broader number of prospective applicants who may be interested in a health related field but are not ready to make a long term commitment to education for that purpose. The shorter time in school also means that there is less money being spent on it, which is a big issue for many people.

Aside from it costing less because of the shortened amount of time spent on it, it is also available to many through smaller local colleges and other technical schools. These schools are often times much less expensive than their larger counterparts. Put altogether and the programs in questions are far more accessible to far more people.

Making that education open to a wider array of people is exactly the point. Given the massive demand for people to enter into these specialized lines of work having the education available for people is a must. A growing number of career oriented high schools are offering the opportunity for students to begin these programs early so that they are ready for a career when they graduate.

With an aging population the demand for health and well-being services continues to grow exponentially. Along with that growing demand are growing costs which are increasingly limiting to what providers are able to offer. By creating more specialized positions they are able to reduce their costs because these positions often pay less than what nurses make.

Of course by opening up these lines of work there is an added benefit aside from increased efficiency in care facilities, there is also a benefit to the employees. The availability of these degrees has improved the quality of life for thousands of people. People that otherwise would not have access to professional or technical careers or higher pay now have that access.

Respiratory therapist programs along with others like them are really a wonderful addition to the world of career training. Employers gain individuals with specialized training in a relatively short amount of time. People gain good paying jobs with benefits and are able to improve their quality of life. Everybody wins.
Amidst all the glamour and valor of a military life, there exists a vacuum for the better halves of servicemen and women.

Frequent moving and busy schedules often result in spouses of active duty service members not being able to forge permanent social bonds with people around them. It also means that they sometimes have to give up on their own dreams and aspirations of having a normal career to be able to accompany their spouses to different and often difficult deployments.

But it doesn't have to be so. When a person decides to join the armed forces, it's not just him, but his entirely family that has to make sacrifices. The least this country can do to thank them for all their sacrifices is make sure that they get an opportunity to chase their dreams.

Military Spouse and Family Educational Assistance programs have been instituted with the aim that family members of active duty military personnel and veteran are able to fulfill their academic and career goals.

Here are a few financial assistance programs for military spouses that they can take advantage of to get a flexible education or vocational training and kick start their dream career:

Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts (MyCAA):

This financial assistance program is administered by the Department of Defense (DoD) and offers financial assistance to military spouses pursuing education or vocational training that leads to portable career fields.

Portable careers are professions that you can take with you wherever you go. These careers allow you to continue on the same path whenever you move from city A to city B, eliminating the need to start over every time your spouse shifts base.

Because of the advances in technology, a lot of careers have now become portable and can even be pursued from home. All you need is a high speed Internet connection, a telephone and a fax machine and you have your home office ready to work as an accountant, graphic designer, freelance writer and editor, medical transcriptionist, medical coding and billing specialist, online tutor, virtual assistant, or whatever in the world that you enjoy doing!

As part of the MyCAA program, financial assistance to the tune of $4000 with a yearly cap of $2000 is available to spouses of active duty service members. Spouses pursuing professional certifications or licensures are offered waivers of up to $4000.

Some of the other eligibility criteria for accessing MyCAA funding include:

1. Spouses of applicants must be active duty service members in pay grades E1-E5, W1-W2, and O1-O2.
2. Applicants must complete their academic program within three years of taking the first course.
3. Applicants must be enrolled in a course approved by MyCAA Financial Assistance (FA) document.

It's a need-based grant, which means it does not need to be repaid. The funding is released directly to the school where the applicant is enrolled. The MyCAA program pays tuition for education and vocational training courses as well as fee for licensing and/or credentialing exams.

Other Assistance Programs:

Post-9/11 GI Bill Transferability: As part of this program, career service members are allowed to share their GI Bill education benefits with immediate family members. The important thing to remember is that service members have the mandate to share only the "unused" portion of their education benefits with their family members that include their spouse and/or children.

For those who are unaware about the details of this program, the Post-9/11 GI Bill provides financial assistance to service members pursuing graduate or undergrad degrees and technical or vocational training among other educational programs and/or credentialing exams.

Financial assistance under the Post-9/11 GI Bill is offered in the form of tuition and fee payment, books and supplies stipend, housing allowance, etc.

State and Private Education Benefits:

Some states offer education benefits to the spouses and children of deceased, Missing in Action (MIA), Prisoner of War (POW) and disabled veterans, while a pool of over $300 million in private scholarships and grants is available to surviving spouses and families of military members and veteran.*1
Instead, students and teachers communicate through chatrooms and over the phone when necessary. There are a large number of benefits that come with this type of learning.

Listed below are some of the benefits of distance learning:

Benefit #1 Flexibility and you get to choose your own hours.

This works great because you get to choose the hours that you will work. You can choose to work in one big increment or work in smaller increments. Distance learning is all about what works the best for you as an individual. You even have the flexible option of working a full-time job with distance learning.

Benefit #2 Bullying is minimal to nonexistant.

With E-learning you aren't forced into a school or classroom where there's a bunch of bullies that dislike you and will pick on you. This is a great alternative for people who are dealing with being heavily bullied, and feel like they are hopelessly trapped. It's a way to put yourself into a safer and happier environment. Removing yourself from the dysfunction that you experience in a regular classroom.

Benefit #3 The classrooms are never crowded.

Even if you see 35 people in the chatroom, it's a completely different environment compared to a real life classroom. You're given plenty of space to just relax, and that makes learning come easier.

Benefit #4 No travel cost.

The money you spend in gas is now money you save. You can spend that extra money on more important matters or save it for a rainy day when you'll need it. You can take this class from the comfort of your own home, and there's something that's liberating about it.

Benefit #5 Work at your nwn pace.

You learn at a pace that suits your style. No more cases where the instructor moves on, and you still clearly do not understand the material. Learning at your own pace lets you can spend as much time as you'd like on the subject.

Benefit #6 Cheaper than a regular classroom.

Lets face it, there's a lot of expenses that come with having to be in a regular classroom. It's more time consuming than distance learning, and that's why it's more expensive.

Benefit #7 Gives more choices for both rural and urban students.

Rural students have to deal with only a few school choice options, and sometimes all they have is one option. Urban students deal with overcrowded classrooms and overworked, unmotivated teachers. With distance learning they have the option to get out of the overcrowded classes, and into a learning environment that is more conducive to learning.

Those are only a handful of the benefits that come with taking online classes. If you take one distance learning class, or many classes you will find that it's a lot easier to learn in that type of environment. The best way to find out is to try it for yourself.
Located in College Park, the university has much to offer students at the graduate level.

One of their programs is in American Studies. This program offers students the ability to earn their Master of Arts in the subject area. The two themes that are broached throughout the program are the cultures of everyday life and the cultural constructions of identity and difference. Students in this program are able to develop an expertise in multiple methodologies and are able to experience many different classes that incorporate these ideas.

Students can also choose to earn their Master of Applied Anthropology. Students who enroll in this program are able to learn about the applications of anthropology. This is a great choice for students who wish to pursue a career in the field outside of the academic realm as well as for those who wish to go on and earn their PhD. This program's purpose is to allow individuals the opportunity to build the anthropological practice.

The University of Maryland also offers a Master of Architecture degree. This program teaches its students how to engage in critical thinking and critical inquiry. Students are able to experience a mix of architectural and urban design studios, architectural history and theory, as well as architectural science and technology. This degree program is accredited by the National Architectural Accreditation Board, which allows students the ability to be licensed after graduation.

There is also a graduate program in Astronomy. Students in this program are able to take a full schedule of courses covering most of the fields within the subject area. Students are able to conduct research in a variety of ways including interplanetary dust, planetary dynamics, and star and planet formation. Students who wish to enter into this program need to have a strong background in astronomy.

Those who are interested in enhancing their writing skills can do so in the university's Creative Writing program. Students in this program are able to work on their craft through creating prose, poetry, stories, and novels. While in the program, students are able to hone their particular branch of creative writing through various studios and practical work, while also completing a traditional study of literature.

Another program offered is in Linguistics. This program allows students to study the history of language and to perform research on how language has transformed over the years. In the program, students are able to build on recent developments within the field. Students are also trained to answer questions in relation to our language and how it has been represented and how it continues to change and develop.

The University of Maryland offers a great array of graduate level programs for interested individuals. Those who are looking for a place to earn their Master's degree should definitely check out everything that the university has to offer. By enrolling into one of their programs, you can be sure to graduate with new found skills and will be well on your way to a successful path. Not everyone can attend a campus-based program, so there are online graduate programs that you can look into. It is very acceptable to earn a Master's degree online.
rusulihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07685976118115630763noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5057855937023106835.post-46940653152709709152011-12-10T21:19:00.000-08:002012-02-28T21:55:10.541-08:00Struggle and Joy With Continuing Legal Education
Law school is not for the weak. Any person who has ever considered law school has had to contend with the daunting thought of the reality. Months spent indoors pouring over decades of legalese. Cramming so much information into your head that it almost physically feels like it is going to explode. Presentations for you to create and lectures for you to soak in. A breath of knowledge that is beyond most people's ability to comprehend or even hope to pursue. This is what going to law school means. And it does not stop there. Graduating law school then leads to bar exams. Bar exams lead to daunting internships or at the very least troublesome and complex interviews with people repeatedly testing your mettle. Then there are the cases or the other work that you do. Working in law has never been and will never be an eight hour a day forty hour a week job. This is hard grueling brain work combined with high stress demands to deliver on a regular basis. In between all of that you are expected to keep educating yourself of the latest developments in law.

Continuing legal education courses, when added to this whole breath of things pulling you, might seem like an unnecessary time suck but the fact is keeping your tools, mostly your brain and ability to talk your game, in top shape is a major part of any work in law. When you decide that continuing legal education is vital for your career you will, as you have with all things in your line of work, simply make it work for you. Good lawyers are strivers by their very nature, dedicated to growing and being better. Continuing legal education is a means to that seemingly never ending end. It is the proverbial carrot on the stick dangled in front of you but always out of reach. Getting good is hard in legal work, getting great is next to impossible.

Pursuing the law as a career should be a passion. It should be something that gets your juices flowing and makes you excited to see what's next. If you have this in you the daunting reality can almost begin to seem like a fun challenge to yourself and those around you. If you believe in what you are doing taking some continuing legal education courses should not only be a professional no-brainer it should be a personal joy.

Marino Legal is an online educational institution providing continuing legal education for attorneys. Easily navigate the website to find out what CLE courses are required in your state.
rusulihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07685976118115630763noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5057855937023106835.post-37985566799011227232011-12-10T21:17:00.000-08:002012-02-28T21:54:33.827-08:00The Growth In The Number Of LPN To RN Schools
The demand for LPNs and RNs remains strong with the graying of America, the increased number of years Americans are living, and the increasing number of people both young and old with chronic illnesses. This plea is in spite of the fact that we are living in such a bleak economy. The demand for health care workers is the principal reason for the increased growth in the amount of LPN to RN schools. Even though the LPN position continues to have a secure future, the job opportunities for the LPN are restricted as compared to the many openings that are for RNs. It is due to this problem of career stagnation that numerous LPNs look to enter one of the many offered LPN to RN programs.

The LPN to RN schools have developed motivated approaches to backing the busy LPN in her search to carry on her career advancement through education. In a largely female profession, the LPN is typically a wife and mother working to help provide for her family. With these programs, the LPN can remain working, most often with flexible hours, making about $15 per hour. The continuous income helps the LPN pay for the additional education and recognize the dream of becoming an RN. The RN position does offer an increase in the variety of nursing careers, amount of unfilled nursing jobs, but also more than twice the wage. For many LPNs, this is a chance they can't turn down. And this may be another driving force behind the upswing in the number of available LPN to RN schools.

The LPN looking to advance in her nursing education, there are a few benefits to having many schools to select from. The first advantage is the selection of courses and programs. While all lead to the eligibility to sit for the nursing exam, they each attempt to be exceptional and essential to the prospective nursing students. Another way to see it is, the schools work very hard to win your education dollars. Another advantage could be that one of the LPN to RN schools may be close enough to you to allow for an easy travel. If not, the number of online schools and programs is also growing.

The solid demand for health care workers and future shortage of nurses has certainly impacted the type of financial aid available for the nursing student. Odds are quite good that there is more financial aid available in the form of grants and scholarships versus student loans. Grants and scholarships are undoubtedly more desirable than loans since you do not have to pay back the money you receive. Be sure to connect with the financial aid departments of the schools you are applying to in order to get all the facts you can about available grants and scholarships. This is something you do not want to hesitate in doing as there may be a yearly limit on the available funds.

One more advantage is interconnected to the competition between the several LPN to RN schools. In order to increase to more students, the schools may propose some pretty attractive financial aid deals. It may be best to apply and gain admittance to several schools and then base your choice on which one offers you the best in financial aid.

The attempts of the National Science Foundation are aimed at realizing their mission, which is to "To promote the progress of science; to advance the national health, prosperity, and welfare; and to secure the national defense."

In line with this particular mission, the NSF has constituted the Law & Social Sciences Program wherein it seeks to ask for proposals that could attend to social scientific studies of law and law-like systems of rules.

The Law & Social Sciences Program will be naturally interdisciplinary and multi-methodological. The guidelines of the program necessitates that in order for a proposal to be successful, it should contain research ideas that will advance scientific theory and the perception of the linkages between human behavior and laws or legal processes.

To make this happen, the proposal will need a dynamic approach that will concurrently accommodate multiple fields of studies, such as:

1. Crime, Violence and Punishment
2. Economic Issues
3. Governance
4. Legal Decision-making
5. Legal Mobilization and Conceptions of Justice
6. Litigation and the Legal Profession

The program also intends to simultaneously support proposals that aim to study historical, social, cultural and policy-related questions that concern the law.

The Law & Social Sciences Program is not just limited to funding proposals that happen to be entirely related to social scientific studies mainly because it can also be utilized for several other disciplines including anthropology, communication, criminology, economics, legal scholarship, political science, public policy, psychology, and sociology.

The National Science Foundation intends to administer up to $5,000,000 to 75 grant recipients under standard grants, continuing grants, or cooperative agreements.

The organizations and institutions which will be considered eligible to participate in the Law & Social Sciences Program are the following:

a) Standard Research Grants and Grants for Collaborative Research

b) Interdisciplinary Postdoctoral Fellowships: US Academic Institutions

c) Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grants: US Academic Institutions

d) Conference and Workshop Support

The Law and Social Sciences Program is greatly crucial to the National Science Foundation for the reason that objectives and goals of the program are incredibly in keeping the agency's mission.

Furthermore, the program will also work as an instrument into the development of innovative studies that will help better the people's comprehension of the law and how it affects our daily lives.
It can lead to a much more financially secure future, and it can expand the knowledge you have about your major to a much higher level. Unfortunately, there aren't the same types of financial aid programs available for graduate school as there were for your undergraduate studies. In this article, I will be describing some of the costs that students will need to account for and some of the possible ways in which they can avoid accumulating more debt than is necessary.

Most students who go on to graduate school accept the fact that they are going to have to take out loans in order to pursue their advanced degree. Unfortunately, the amount of debt that students can accumulate over the years is massive. The average student in America who graduates with a Masters degree accrues over $41,000 in debt while students who choose to go into medicine or law will usually owe more than $90,000 by the time they graduate. Paying back the entirety of these loans can be a struggle and will take many years for most people. This being the case, it makes a lot of sense to get creative and find different ways of getting your education paid for.

One way to save on your education is to pick your school wisely. If there you are choosing from multiple universities and one of them happens to be a public school or an in-state school, it may be your best option when it comes to value. Private universities can cost up to ten times more than their public counterparts, and out-of-state fees are typically two to three times more than in-state college fees. This difference in cost can certainly lower your costs and can even eliminate your need to take out loans.

Another option that is often overlooked is the opportunity of teaching assistantships. Most professors have assistants that perform a variety of tasks for them. These tasks range from answer questions during a lecture to grading papers or even teaching the classes themselves on occasion. In return, these assistants have their educations paid for.

Fellowships are also available for graduate students. Fellowships are type of financial aid that can come from the government, but are usually given by independent organizations at each university. The university itself may also have fellowships programs for specific degrees or research that it wants to promote. It should be noted that a much smaller percentage of graduates are funded by fellowships than assistantships.

Loan forgiveness proframs are also available nationwide for students who are going into the teaching and nursing profession, among others. These programs are funded by the government and offer to repay teachers and nurses after working for a few years. This repayment can be as much as $17,500. There are certain criteria that may affect the refund amount that each individual is entitled to. For example, a teacher in a high-income area may be forgiven $5,000, while someone teaching in a low-income area may be forgiven the maximum $17,500 because there is a need for teachers in that area.

Many employers will also reimburse their employees for earning a degree while continuing to work for them. While it can be hard to pay for everything up front on your own, at least you can pay it off much faster with the help of this type of reimbursement program. One major downside for some students is that graduate school is demanding, and it can be hard for students to work a job and be successful at school simultaneously, but it can be worth it if you don't have any other options.

Overall, graudate programs can be very expensive, but there are a number of creative ways to fund your education. Instead of taking out loans, a student should research all of his or her options for graduate school financial aid, including, assistantships, fellowships, loan forgiveness programs, and employer reimbursement programs. The most effective way to limit any debt from attending school is to choose a public university that is in-state that still fits your needs.
rusulihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07685976118115630763noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5057855937023106835.post-62861550097703365542011-11-18T21:32:00.001-08:002012-02-28T21:52:14.362-08:00Applications Requirement for an MBA Program
It just makes sense that anyone who has already taken the time to get a Bachelor's degree that they should also want to work hard to find a MBA program that will allow them to continue the education that has brought them to the place they are today. MBA degrees are highly sought after by employers when searching for adequately trained employees, and when it comes to promotions from within and existing pool of employees, those same employers will be looking for those individuals who have taken the time to work their way through an MBA program when promoting to upper management positions.

The application process for entering MBA programs must be followed to the letter or it may prevent you from being accepted into the desired class or at the very least it could set you back a year or two. For this reason, you should always take the time to go through every detail and fill out the application correctly.

This application process is fully based on what you are able to produce. You will be required to produce your undergraduate transcript, GMAT score, resume, and admissions essays. It takes a great deal of personal effort to meet these requirements, and this is just the beginning. You will have to also obtain letters of recommendations from people who you cannot control what they will have to say about you.

If you are truly serious about entering an MBA program, you will have to make sure that you adhere to all the requirements of admissions. It is also beneficial for you to remember that MBA programs are literally flooded with interested applicants for admission to their programs, and that means that you have to make every effort to make yours stand out from all the rest. Make sure that you do not try to be hasty in your preparations.

When applying for MBA programs at prestigious institutions like Harvard, Michigan, Stanford or some of the others in the nation, you can be sure that you will be standing against some very stiff competition, but you may not find it as competitive when applying for an online MBA program even though you will still have to turn in a well done application. You should also expect to be required to turn in a minimum of two letters of recommendation, so choose wisely, and start early.

While selecting an online MBA program may seem to be the logical choice when you are ready to commit a couple of years to your life into achieving this goal, you still should take enough time to investigate all the different aspects of choosing the right one. The most important thing to check is the accreditation of the program, but you will also want to make sure that the company you are working for or the one that you hope to secure a position with will accept the degree you will eventually earn from the MBA program of your choice. Anything less than that and you have wasted your time.
There are now a number of different programs that are being implemented by schools all over the country and they have been quite successful so far. Besides, if technology is being used more and more by students, it only makes sense that educators are given the same opportunity with their education.

Online professional development programs save schools money by not having to hire substitute teachers or paying for traveling or material expenses; however, teachers are welcoming these online programs because they allow them to take their courses at times that are easiest for them, and allowing them to take away more information because they are in the right mind-set to learn the material. This means that teachers are able to turn right around and incorporate the material into their lesson plans the next day.

Colleges for education are also jumping on the bandwagon and creating a number of online or hybrid professional development courses for educators. They saw a growing demand and agreed that non-degree programs online would make more sense than conducting the courses person, partly because of the very nature of how colleges of education are now being structured.

"We're an academic program. We're not designed for customized [face-to-face] workshops in any way," said Lisa Dawley, a professor of educational technology at Boise State University, in Idaho.

Dawley and her teammates recently began an online professional development program in August. The online program is designed to provide K-12 educators and administrators access to three-week instructor-led online workshops that cover courses such as merging technology into the classroom. Dawley said that the program will also be expanded to provide teachers workshops dealing with common-core standards for the state of Idaho.

Arizona State University has also created their own version of online professional development for teachers. In 2006, the university joined forces with the state department of education and produced the IDEAL program, which stands for Integrated Data to Enhance Arizona Learning. The program offers online courses to develop teachers' instructional skills in areas such as language arts, math, science, technology integration, classroom management, and English as a second language. Courses are usually over a span of six to eight weeks and cost around $65.

"We've known for a long time that the best professional development is job-embedded and sustainable within [instructors'] own time, and able to be accessed by individuals as well," said Rick Baker, the associate director of IDEAL.

Aside from local colleges of education, school districts are hosting their own version of online professional development. Mark Hess, the executive director of instruction, technology, and assessment for the Walled Lake district in Michigan is turning to the online world to enhance professional development experiences for his educators through hybrid programs. His program includes the formation of a video library that shows expert teachers demonstrating a number of different teaching techniques. The video library will be paired with the district's traditional week-long face-to-face workshop next year. Hess's hope is that teachers will walk into the traditional workshop with more knowledge because of the videos and the workshop will be used for more discussion and interaction then instruction.

Another online professional development program that is making waves is Channel One, which has recently partnered with Promethean Inc. These two companies have created a program that will be piloted this month in Ashland Elementary School in Prince William County, Va. Each classroom in the school will be given an interactive whiteboard, provided by Promethean, which will air daily broadcasts and give students various lessons and quizzes, while Promethean will give teachers short daily tutorials on using various whiteboard tools and improving teaching methods with the interactive whiteboard.

The Channel One program will provide teachers a list of options for professional development that will highlight a "skill of the day," such as incorporating various online tools such as Google Docs into lessons or creating digital assessments. All the tutorials will be kept online so that an educator can take a look back and review the material.

"So many teachers come back from a traditional professional-development session, and they remember only a very small portion, only what they were ready to get and grasp," Shannon Kula, an education solutions manager for Promethean, said. "This delivers it in bite-sized chunks, and it's customizable."

So with the ever-growing demand for online professional development, it looks like we will be seeing more companies like Channel One offer programs for schools. Hopefully, this new way of professional develop will give teachers the flexibility they are looking for and give them resources to improve their techniques in the classroom.
